Atlas
Male · Discernment
Past the neutrality phase and into distance work. Responds to recall with people around.
Provisional text: the final profile describes observed behaviour, never adjectives.
Level
Discernment
Obeys at a distance and under distraction: holds position with the handler out of sight, with another animal passing, with a gate slamming.
Works the property perimeter and signals an unfamiliar presence without advancing. It holds and barks without biting, which is the most underrated piece of the whole programme: it is the only moment where a dog shows it can be at full activation and choose not to bite.
And it stops on a command given in a normal voice. It tells apart someone entering with authorisation from someone entering without, and stays neutral with a service worker introduced by the owner.
What this level does not cover
Physical restraint of a person is not included. The dog signals, marks and holds; it is not trained to chase or to detain.
Work with a handler who is neither the owner nor someone trained alongside the dog is not included. A dog handled by a stranger is not the same dog.
Operation in public places or crowds is not included.
And the TI-CBKC, while it does assess defence, assesses defence of the handler on a fenced field, in a single exercise. It is not, and does not claim to be, a simulation of a break-in. Anyone saying otherwise is stretching what the trial says.
